Del Monte Beach is a huge sandy beach with long expanses of sandy bottom. For most divers, that doesn't make for the most interesting dive but a handful of reefs interrupt the plains with fascinating treasures.

Entry & Access
The beach is sandy and makes for an easy entrance. The closer the entry is to the Municipal Wharf, the milder the surf will be.
Attractions & Wildlife
There is no shortage of sand here and the shallow flats are perfect for halibut fishing which is a big draw. Sand dollar shoals, burrowing fish and even octopus at night are fun to spot here too. Where the sand is interrupted by rocky or anthropogenic substrate, uniquely vibrant communities of life have formed that are well worth visiting and photographing.

Skill Level & Hazards
This area is popular not only for divers but kayakers and other boaters. More than other sites nearby, this beach is open water diving and a float on the surface is advised.

EMS activation by boat: Notify Coast Guard boat crew on channel 16 or call 911. Patient transfer at Fuel Dock or at sea.
